Job seeker UKLooking for a Job? You are not Alone

It used to be that people can leave their jobs and immediately be hired perhaps in the same day or maybe even in the same hour. Nowadays, the same is simply not the case.  You can put up an ad right now for a job vacancy and you will probably get a number of applicants within the hour.

The problem is that the  number of applicants far outnumber the positions available. In Oldham for example, many people who just left their jobs a few months ago for whatever reason find themselves unable to get back into the job market. They cannot even get a job for which they are beyond qualified for.

However, it seems that the problem with jobs isn’t as across the board as previously thought off. Sometime you just need to skip to the next town to find a place where there are many vacancies and few applicants. In some places like Oldham, the ratio of applicants to job positions is 30.6. In Aberdeen it’s 1.5 and in Newark and Chester it’s 1.9. The distance between the overcrowded town and the one without much applicants is a mere fifty or so miles.

As such the applicants in these towns are too qualified for the job that are vacant. Some even have college degrees but are applying as mere bar assistants and other jobs that are below their educational attainment.

But it is better than nothing as some might say. It is better than collecting job seeker allowance. In this economy, you take what you can get.
